Mount Zion Health Fund

Grant Application Process: Overview

Mount Zion Health fund accepts proposals from organizations that are classified as 501(c)(3) tax-exempt by the Internal Revenue Service. Projects or programs that are not under the auspices of a 501(c)(3) organization must identify a fiscal agent to receive funds. The MZHF Board will consider all requests that fall within MZHF’s funding priorities and meet the guidelines below.

Jewish Legacy Awards

In acknowledgement of the history and legacy of Mount Zion Hospital, MZHF awards grants to agencies which share Jewish roots and facilitate the provision of health-related services to meet the needs of underserved populations in San Francisco. Additional information:

  • Request should be program-specific
  • Program may be direct health services or health education-related
  • Core operating support or innovative program requests are both acceptable
  • Grants are typically one year in duration
  • Grant may be renewable based on reporting requirements fulfilled and board review
Mount Zion Campus-Community Partnership Awards

To encourage innovation in community-based care, grants are made to foster collaborations between UCSF Mount Zion programs working in partnership with San Francisco community-based agencies to provide innovative community health programming. Both existing and new partnerships are eligible to apply. Additional funding emphasis:

  • Projects initiated by or linked to priority campus areas (Cancer Care, Women’s Health, Integrative Medicine, Pediatric Health, Geriatrics, and Adult Primary Care)
  • Projects designed to meet the needs of underserved populations residing in the neighborhoods surrounding the Mount Zion Campus
  • Projects may be direct service or education-related
  • Pilot projects with potential for sustainability
Mount Zion Campus Awards

MZHF awards both core funding and pilot initiative grants to identified priority programs based at the Mount Zion Campus [Cancer Care, Women’s Health, Integrative Medicine, Pediatric Health, Geriatrics, and Adult Primary Care], to support and enhance patient care, health education, and research.

This annual grant award cycle is restricted to MZ Campus-based programs only and has a specific application process – please contact Karen Staller directly at kstaller@mzhf.org for more information.

The MZHF Board reviews grant requests once per year for the Jewish Legacy Awards and the Mount Zion Campus-Community Partnership Awards, in November. Mount Zion Campus Awards are reviewed once per year, in March. Applicants will generally receive a response within three months of submitting a proposal.
