A week-long celebration of YOM HA'ATZMAUT through Zemer Ivri (Israeli Song) has come to an end. And what a week it was!
On May 11, at the JCCSF, 120 children joined together to form a community choir for the first time. Rabbi Peretz Wolf-Prusan opened the event with a beautiful and touching personal story about Yom Hazikaron in Israel. The program included the choir, a musical performance by SEEDS OF SUN, folk dancing and food.
Seven schools participated in the choir, a culminating event for Shirat Ha'aretz which used Israeli songs to teach and learn about history, geography and society in Israel. Fran Avni, our educator-in-residence, did a phenomenal job with the kids and with the music.
On May 12, at the Peninsula JCC, 70 children formed a similar choir. Judith Edelson, Executive director of PJCC, opened the event and Liki Abrams, lay leader extrordinaire, officiated and Rabbi Ezray of Temple Beth Jacob led us with a blessing. The program included DUO ZIMBALISTA, folk dancing and food. The evening started with an hour of family activities including storytelling and percussion workshop.
